A Personal Appeal From Savannah NAACP 1st Vice-President Richard Shinhoster
1204 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard
Savannah, GA 31415-6355
Since the days of Slavery and “Jim Crow” The Unrestricted Right to Vote has been at the forefront of the struggle for Equal Rights. The NAACP fought for the passage of the 1965 ‘Voting Rights Act’; an act to enforce the fifteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Section 2 of this Act removed the prerequisites to voting, such as the ‘Poll Tax’, ‘Literacy tests’, and property ownership.
However, they did not make voting mandatory in the Voting Rights Act – they left that up to you. Therefore, I am making a personal appeal to you to register to vote. If you are already registered, I appeal to you to vote. I am also appealing to you to serve as a committee of one and make certain your family and friends are register to vote, and to make sure they always vote. ‘A VOTE IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE’!
